Some ways to store makeup properly (2)

What is the proper way of storing them so they will last longer?  Keep them in a cool, dry place—your bedroom instead of your bathroom, for example, since when you take a bath the humidity won’t be good for your cosmetics.

Also, keep them away from direct sunlight or any place where the temperature changes, like your car.

You may want to store them in your refrigerator. Not only will it prolong the makeup’s shelf life, it also makes the makeup so refreshing to apply. Lastly, make sure you properly close the makeup tubes or containers so that dirt or bacteria won’t be able to enter.

I try to look for expiration dates when I shop for cosmetics, but some don’t have them. What should I do?  It is good that you check for expiration dates. I’ve noticed that European brands do have expiration dates, something not all cosmetics companies follow. Here’s a rough guide on the shelf life of most cosmetics:

Anti-aging and acne treatments: 3 months to a year.
Bath oil: 1 year
Blush: 1 year
Body lotion: 2 – 3 years
Concealer: up to 12 months
Deodorant: up to 2 years
Eye pencils: up to 3 years
Eye shadow: 3 years
Facial toner: 1 year, may last less if it contains Vitamin C
Foundation: A water-based foundation will last for up to 12 months, an oil-based one up to 18 months.
Hairstyling products: 3 – 5 years
Lip balm: 1 -2 years
Lip pencils: up to 3 years
Lipstick/lip gloss: 2 -3 years
Mascara and liquid eyeliner: 3 – 4 months
Moisturizers and facial cleansers: about 6 months, unless they contain acids like glycolic acid, salicylic acid and beta hydroxyl acid, which make them last longer
Nail polish: 1 year
Perfume:  2 – 3 years
Powder: 2 years
Sunscreen: 2 years

Some ways to store makeup properly (1)

For those women who’s always on the go to their work but always wanted to make sure that they are always in a proper grooming, they have a lot of questions on how can they apply makeup properly.  I have known some of the women who have their queries about it.  These are:

How do I make my makeup last the whole day?  It’s pretty difficult to do, although there are tricks that would help. One, use a primer before the foundation to keep the foundation looking fresh. Also, if you use liquid foundation (as I do), dust it with loose powder to set it well. I then brush on some blush, and it stays on longer than expected and keeps skin from getting oily as the powder absorbs the oil.

On eye shadows, applying a cream shadow of the same color tone as a base, then brushing on some powder shadow on top, will make your eye shadow last the whole day. Of course, water-proof mascara should be your top choice since it lasts longer. Using a lip liner also helps your lipstick stay on, although you will have to touch up once in a while. Just remember to keep some loose powder and blush in your purse for regular touch-ups.

Your worries are over! (2)

Shower oils

Shower Oil can be  applied to damp skin in the shower, then blend with water as it is massaged on from the neck down.  It swamps off dry scaly skin while lifting off dirt and odor-causing bacteria. It rinses off clean without a greasy residue and leaves skin baby-soft. Your elbows, knees and feet will feel the comfortness.

You can choose the fragrance you want.  There is this vanilla-based pick the Amande (almond) Shower Oil, which smells like sugar-coated almonds.  And if you prefer refreshing scents, Grapeseed Shower Oil which smells like fresh red grapes is more your style.

The Body Shop Moringa Body Line is making waves abroad as it is high on vitamin A, a key ingredient for moisture and antioxidant protection.  Moringa is actually malunggay, which grows in most Filipino backyards and is a common leafy green found in our soup.

It  is good  for normal to dry skin and has a floral-green bouquet. Used in Ayurvedic medicine some 4,000 years ago, moringa seed oil comes from the moringa tree, which is native to northern India. It is called the “miracle tree” due to its widely beneficial sues.  It is used as a natural antibiotic, aid in childbirth and in treating liver problems.

Some uses the shower gel and body butter before bedtime whenever they’re out of town and stuck in an air-conditioned hotel room which robs the moisture off anyone.

Your worries are over! (1)

Good morning everybody.  Many has a serious problem of their skin.  Too much dry and flaky skin.  There are some put too much lotion but still no effect on their skin.  But we should not lose our hope.  Every problem has its own solution.

Summer is coming, so dry and  itchy skin is the most common beauty despair when the temperature drops.  Most of the time the arms and legs become scaly, and one feels a tightness on the face and torso as if the skin were being pulled in different directions. One scratch and you be bleeding or scarred.  Taking a shower provides short-term relief as the water moistens our skin up to a few minutes only.  As water evaporates skin once again feels tight as the cleanser we have used has stripped the light oil barrier that locks moisture in.  There are  options obtasinable to you to make your feel great and smell wonderful as well.

Body cleanser

I have been using papaya soap but it didn’t help my skin much.  Some says that Dove soap is one those classic soap-free solid body bars. But if you have been using it all year round and it isn’t of much help now, switch to the Bodywash.  I am pleasantly surprised at the Body Wash Beauty Moisture with moisture milk.

It’s the most hydrating of the bunch and best for the driest of skin types as it leaves a protective film that locks moisture in.  It smells very clean but creamily comforting at the same time. It also does not clash with one’s cologne.

The Exfoliating Body Wash smells great with a fresh laundry-inspired fragrance much like Clean’s or Philosophy’s Pure Grace; but it can feel drying for those with very dry skin.  When feeling dryness it’s best to use a Beauty Beauty Moisture Body Lotion after bathing.

Truly white—not just lighter—skin (1)

MOST Asians, whether they admit it or not, are obsessed with having very clear white skin, like what Nicole Kidman or those Hong Kong movie stars have.

Marketably available whitening products can only promise to give you back the skin you were born with before sun exposure had done its job; nothing lighter than that. Glutathione injections and tablets can perhaps lighten your baby skin by a shade or three, but that is the absolute limit for most.

The latest treatment some tried is the secret of many Filipina actresses, some of whom have gone from dark brown to white.

Body peeling with whitening treatment is an aggressive method that promises to drastically change your actual skin tone. Naturally fair-skinned, went from light beige to a head-turning pink-white due to body peeling.

A caveat: Although procedure and its ingredients are very safe—they are not recommended for pregnant women and those who are ill, or have liver or kidney ailments. So, before getting the treatment, consult your doctor first.

The body peeling program called Power White is an intensive facial, skin and body treatment that erases pimple, acne and dark wound scars and marks, while whitening every area of the body.

Even a person with caramel, chocolate or dark coffee skin tone will turn ivory or porcelain-white in a matter of weeks, and it is theirs to keep with soaps and solutions readily available at the salon. The entire program requires a once-a-week visit to the salon for 10 weeks, plus a take-home skin care regimen one has to follow strictly.

For good skin? Give up smoking – 2

Deep damage

Applying moisturizing creams may slightly improve the skin’s appearance, but the damage lies deep under the skin.

“Smoking gradually decreases the levels of collagen on your skin, causing the skin to sag and wrinkle.”   Having cosmetic procedures done may be an option to revitalize skin, but since the body’s ability to produce collagen is affected, there is a big possibility the results will be unsuccessful.

“Smoking slows down the production of collagen, thus slowing down the body’s ability to heal.”

Second-hand smoke may not have the full effect that a smoker is up against, but being constantly exposed to cigarette smoke does have an effect on health, not to mention one’s skin.

“Being in an environment where you’re always breathing in smoke, you’re already exposing yourself to half of the effects you would get if you were smoking yourself. The effects on the skin includes overall dryness and an increase in the production of free radicals.”

Quitting smoking is your best beauty regimen, along with constant moisturizing and sun protection.  “It is best not to start at all. If you’re smoking, it is better to quit, because the longer you stay on it, the more damage it will do to your skin. At a certain point, you cannot reverse the effects anymore.”
